Background and Artistic Journey

Doddo’s journey as an artist began early, with her passion for painting present since childhood, despite denied access to formal training. A dedicated self-starter, she has painted continuously since 2015, driven by a desire for artistic expression and growth. Her journey is marked by perseverance and a willingness to embrace diverse techniques, developing a unique, emotionally charged style that aims to have a healing impact on the viewer. Through deep introspection and intense self-discovery, she has shaped a style that is both raw and intimate, infusing her pieces with the unmistakable energy of modern expressionism.

Style and Technique

Her artwork embodies a visceral energy, channeling unfiltered emotions onto canvas through a technique that merges figurative elements with abstract forms and street art influences. She only uses premium acrylics on canvas, finished with a protective coating to ensure both an authentic texture and enhanced durability. Her pieces reveal a dynamic interplay between the structured and the chaotic, with each stroke creating a complex visual landscape that engages the viewer on multiple levels.

Themes

Her art explores the theme of human fragmentation, presented through emotionally and symbolically resonant images, distorted bodies, and faceless forms. These elements illustrate how the pressures of modern societies can disrupt inner harmony and fracture the individual spirit. In her work, she seeks to visually dissect the body and soul, which she perceives as a mirror of the “confused deformities” of contemporary existence. Doddo invites her audience into what she describes as a “bazaar of illicit, immoral, illegal dreams”, a realm of deeply personal, provocative, and complex emotions that stir self-reflection.

Focus is only on certain fragments and not on the whole individual which is broken into pieces, divided between mind, imagination, sensation and increasingly sophisticated and difficult to understand concepts about its own purpose and existence.

Postmodern philosophies have demolished the corporality and consistency of its whole, turning it into a malleable and adjustable material. The style in which the artwork is conceived suggests that the urban environment is the place where the body and the being is deprived of its identity. In addition, in some of the paintings the body shapes are headless, faceless and, in the absence of appearance, they become fluid.

In other words, the body, like the soul, like reality are arbitrarily reinvented and resized. Therefore, this symbol of transfiguration can also be found in my artwork as a key element which indicates the transcendence, the eternity of the living being and its primordial unity. The distorted body tends towards it, but it is diminished, weakened by the action of confusing deformities. The body reduced only to an amorphous carnality or marked with fetishes is like a contorted creature, without an identity, that seeks its lost unity.

Vision and Purpose

Doddo envisions her art as a medium for soul purification, a personal “magic” that transcends the canvas to offer healing to the viewer. A defining feature of her work is the deliberate use of orange in every painting, a color that symbolizes gratitude and her ongoing inner quest — a journey that honors the potential of every being to create and connect. This color choice reflects her desire to infuse her works with warmth and optimism, as well as her aim to create art that fosters resilience and introspection. The personal signature on each painting is represented by the unique eye motif. For Doddo, this eye symbolizes a profound insight — a belief that “two closed eyes can see better than a blind mind,” an expression of the inner vision that awakens the “third eye.” This artistic vision, grounded in spirituality and self-discovery, reflects her journey to evoke healing, awareness, and gratitude through each piece, inviting viewers to engage with their own inner potential.
